Yellow does not stink

Yellow is a common color for cars. It usually brings to mind the post office, the breakdown service of the automobile club called TCS, ADAC, ÖAMTC or Wegenwacht, or the Borussia Dortmund team bus. Softer, pastel shades were also popular as paint colors for private cars during the transition from the 1950s to the 1960s. For example, the "Sahara Yellow" of the Opel Rekord, the "Jaune Panama" of the Citroën DS or the "Primrose Yellow" of the Jaguar E-Type.
Then again, there are cars that are not at all associated with this spring-like daffodil color. For example, the Maserati 3500 GTI or the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren. Nevertheless, there were at least two people who, in 1964 and 2008 respectively, thought that no other color in the world would suit their new luxury sports car better. And while the Maserati customer opted for a plain black interior, the Woking team combined the bright yellow paint with bright red leather upholstery.
The two unusually brightly colored coupés will be auctioned by Bonhams in Monaco on 10 May. The 1973 Jeep Wagoneer on offer at the auction is also presented in a fresh bright yellow. However, this makes it by far the most ordinary eccentric of the sunny trio. Even the sales brochure showed it in "Daisy Yellow".
