Once upon a time ... the display instrument

They were the splendor and adornment of the sports cars of the sixties and seventies. This refers to the extensive arrangement of display instruments for all aspects of the vehicle and technology. Individually installed and carefully distributed across the available space on the dashboard, they gave the cars character. Many manufacturers had individual preferences as to how the "clocks" should best be arranged, whether in front of the driver behind the steering wheel and/or in the center console. Manufacturers also went to great lengths to convey their style when designing the instruments.
Of course, such dashboards were expensive to manufacture, as each instrument had to be installed and wired individually. But the result was worth the effort, they thought at the time.
Today, 50 or 60 years later, the world looks very different. Modern cars have displays that look more or less the same across half or even the entire width of the car, and how well these areas are used depends on the development teams' playfulness and budget. However, as soon as the car is stationary and the driver has moved away, they all look the same - just black surfaces . No wonder children today no longer bother to look inside modern cars, what is there to see?
