In the age of "keyless go", it's almost impossible to imagine something like this. Here we are looking at the rear of the large Mazda coupé from the early seventies, known internally as the LA2. The Wankel symbol with a red center protects the lock on the rear lid.
It can be turned out when the key is inserted into the lock. Everything feels wonderfully high-quality and still works like new after 50 years. That was quality and attention to detail.
Funnily enough, Mazda also used this keyhole cover on non-Wankel vehicles, as our photo shows the 929 Hardtop Coupé from 1975 with an in-line four-cylinder engine. In this country, the Wankel version was sold as the RX-4.
