Electric car manufacturers 50 years ago already knew what they were doing
When a wave of electric cars hit us around 50 years ago, they were almost exclusively city cars and small cars. There were good reasons for this, as battery capacities at the time were barely sufficient for more than 50 to perhaps 100 or 150 km.
When the next wave came with Tesla, the focus suddenly shifted to sporty saloons and finally SUVs. The advantages of these vehicle categories are actually less convincing than those of small cars, if you put the economy/ecology to one side.
The fact is that the comfort advantage of the electric drive is greatest in small cars. This is noticeable in the Renault Zoë or the Fiat 500e, for example. The noise comfort can compete with the most expensive limousines of the nineties, as can the driving comfort.
Unfortunately, the automotive industry does not seem to fully understand this and therefore prefers to rely on large and heavy vehicles, where the advantages are significantly lower, but the achievable prices are higher. But buyers don't have to follow this trend ...
