The first monoposto for Jochen Mass

In 1971, exactly 51 years ago, Jochen Mass drove a Ford Capri in the DRM (German Circuit Championship), with which he also won the championship. At the same time, however, he also started his monoposto career in the Kaiman Formula V pictured here.
Jochen Mass remembers it well: "Suddenly Eberhard (WRD Racing Team) called me and asked me if I would like to test one of his Formula Vee cars. I said yes and I was already driving in the Super Vee championship, where I ended up leading the championship in Finland. Then Jochen Neerpasch called me and invited me to a Formula 3 test in England. I withdrew from Formula Vee, settled for the runner-up title and traveled to England without the Formula championship title. And then I drove in the English F-3 championship, in which I finished all the remaining races, i.e. sixth, fifth, fourth, third and second. Finally, I also took a win, which meant I finished the championship in sixth place."
In 1971, he was also at the start of the Rossfeld hill climb with the Kaiman, but was unable to finish due to technical problems. A few weeks ago, now 76 years young, he drove up the mountain again in the same small and agile car without any problems. The only problem was getting out of the car, so Jochen preferred to wait for the return trip to the valley sitting in the car.
