Silver Arrow on the Grossglockner
09/21/2012
In 1939, Hermann Lang won the Grossglockner mountain race in a Mercedes-Benz W125. 73 years later, the car was back on the mountain.
It is a unique experience. You're sitting in the middle of nature, not a sound to be heard apart from birdsong, the sound of waterfalls and the occasional gust of wind, until suddenly you hear the sound of an engine in the distance.
It approaches quickly and then Jochen Mass races through in the Silver Arrow, the eight-cylinder in-line engine roaring its unique song.
And it is over as quickly as it came. And silence returns until the next race.
If you want to hear this unique soundscape , listen to the audio sample . We will soon be publishing a comprehensive photo report on the Grossglockner Grand Prix 2012.
