Motor racing can be dangerous - Motorsports can be dangerous
It is always written on tickets or press passes as a warning, so to speak: "Motorsports can be dangerous". Despite all the safety precautions and caution taken by those responsible, there is always a residual risk.
This is all the more true in racing with old cars, because in addition to the material, some of which has aged with honor, the drivers are often pure amateurs and mistakes can happen.
As happened recently at the 2012 Goodwood Revivalduring practice for the sports prototypes, which were trying to secure a starting place for Saturday's race.
The driver of the 1965 Hamill-Chevrolet SR3 was in a particular hurry and didn't make it past the first lap. The beautiful vehicle had to take a beating. Thankfully, the driver was uninjured.
But what would have happened if there had been no barrier at that point, if a spectator or marshal had been standing there? Or what if the hood had flown further?
Maybe next time we should all show a little more understanding when a marshal points us away or when a dangerous spot is declared a no-go zone ...
