Schumi celebrates his 300th Grand Prix in his "living room"
On August 25, 1991, Michael Schumacher unexpectedly made his GP debut. After the Belgian Jordan driver Bertrand Gachot had to spend a short time behind bars following an irritant gas attack on a London cab driver, the young Schumi was able to take over his cockpit.
A glittering career took its course. Michael Schumacher put the Jordan in seventh place on the grid at the first attempt. Unfortunately, he stopped 500 meters after the start, lying in fifth place, with clutch damage.
After this one race, Schumi switched from Jordan to Benetton, where he went on to win his first two Formula 1 titles in 1994 and 1995.
The Spa-Francorchamps circuit became his "living room", he can boast his GP debut in 1991, his first victory in 1992 and five further successes here in the Ardennes. He also celebrated his 20th anniversary in Formula 1 here last year and now his 300th GP race anniversary also falls on the Spa weekend, prompting the Belgians to make him an honorary citizen of Spa.
