In the past, it wasn't just cars that were different, but also the measurement criteria and methods used in car tests. Who would think of measuring a vehicle's climbing ability today? Determining fuel consumption at constant speeds is also a thing of the past.
However, noise levels are still measured today, but hardly with an instrument as robust as the one shown above. The time-honored measuring device, which cannot really be described as handy, weighed several kilograms and still only had limited capabilities.
