When the technical design speaks for itself (quiz)
In the pioneering days of the automobile, anyone buying a vehicle often decided on a chassis based on technical criteria and then had a body built on top. This changed when, with increasing automation, car manufacturers preferred to build and sell entire vehicles and increasingly used the design of the body as a differentiating feature. Technology became more and more hidden and played an increasingly less important role in sales literature. Conceptual differences were no longer suitable as a purchase criterion; appearance, equipment and comfort became more important. Or would you have recognized straight away which car the chassis pictured above belonged to?
Nevertheless, engineers tried to design forward-looking and special solutions, even if hardly anyone saw them in the end.
We have searched our archives for chassis/chassis drawings and compiled them into a car connoisseur quiz. The aim is to guess which vehicle used the technical basis shown.
