The irreplaceable Sean Connery (obituary)

He was neither a designer nor a racing driver. And yet he was important for the automobile, at least for one of them, the Aston Martin DB5. Sean Connery had style as James Bond and he also lent this style to the Aston.
However, Goldfinger was not the first Bond film with Sean Connery; there had already been Dr. No and From Russia with Love. The cars were much less spectacular then, however, with Connery driving a Sunbeam Alpine or being chauffeured around in a Ford Ranch Wagon.
And of course the Bond films, of which four more followed after Goldfinger, were not the only important milestones in his film career, although they probably shaped the Connery brand more than almost any other film, among which the Hitchcock films Marnie, The Name of the Rose and Entrapment deserve special mention. His last major film role was Allan Quatermain in the fantasy action film "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen".
And now Sean Connery died yesterday, October 31, 2020, at the age of just over 90, which means we can look forward to many of his (Bond) films being repeated on television in the coming days and weeks. After all, for many Bond fans, none of the successors ever came close to Connery ...
