When you think of movie cars, the legendary Aston Martin DB5 from James Bond comes to mind for most movie enthusiasts. In comparison, however, the Mercedes-Benz 190 SL is a real blockbuster, as it has appeared in hundreds of films and has repeatedly been at the center of filming. Who doesn't remember Grace Kelly chauffeuring Frank Sinatra around in the movie "High Society"? The film 190 SL is painted silver, just like the (slightly younger) car portrayed in this report. When the Mercedes-Benz 190 SL was presented to the jam-packed public at the New York Motor Show on February 6, 1954, the Stuttgart-based carmakers already had a larger sports car in their range, namely the 300 SL, derived from the racing version and certainly not destined for large numbers.
