Cycling back in fashion among motorists
11/11/2020
We recently stumbled across the following press release (for non-Swiss people, it should be noted that the term "bicycle" is used here to mean "bicycle"):
"Cycling is back in fashion among motorists: the warning calls from the medical profession about the dangers of insufficient exercise do not seem to have gone unheard by motorists in western Germany. Apparently, some of them have come to terms with the fear of obesity, shortness of breath and circulatory disorders. This is the conclusion reached by bicycle dealers in the Braunschweig-Lüneburg region, where a market analysis has shown that cycling is becoming fashionable again, primarily for health reasons. Significantly, the clientele of these stores has changed, with car owners becoming increasingly prominent. To accommodate and take advantage of this trend, a bicycle factory in Braunschweig has already developed a foldable multi-purpose bike that fits comfortably in the trunk of a car."
The inclined reader will have guessed from the language and details that this press release is not new. In fact, it dates back to November 1959 , making it 61 years old. Some things hardly change ...
P.S. The photo only fits the press release thematically, but not chronologically. The folding bike in the BMW was photographed in 1969, ten years later.
