A forgotten cabin scooter beauty from Italy
Who knows, perhaps the world of cars would look different today if one of the Italian scooter manufacturers had seized the opportunity at the beginning of the 1950s and mass-produced what was perhaps the most beautiful cabin scooter of the time.
But this did not happen and Ezio Cingolani's tricycle remained a one-off.
The Automobil Revue wrote in 1953:
" The carrossier Ezio Cingolani from Recanati has built a particularly elegant three-wheeler in a single example. It is a streamlined two-seater made from old parts and the 125 cc engine of a motor scooter. The weight of this successful design, which can reach 75 km/h with two people on board, is particularly low at 125 kg. It proves that new, high-quality solutions can be achieved through simplification."
The engine came from a Piagggio Vespa. The external dimensions at the time were 2.6 meters long, 1.2 meters wide and 1.15 meters high. The light weight was achieved by using 12/10 mm thick aluminum sheet. The magazine "auto motor und sport" also reported (briefly) on the interesting design.
Unfortunately, Cingolani did not have the financial means to build the successful prototype in series and looked for a manufacturer to license the vehicle. Obviously this was not successful, perhaps also because it was not possible to build the elegant aluminum body at a reasonable cost. What a pity!
