What works or doesn't work for classic car buyers
02/08/2020
The three auctions surrounding the Rétromobile in Paris are now over. All in all, things went much better than some might have feared. And some cars fetched surprisingly high prices. The mood in the market seems to be improving, people are buying again.
But it is difficult to predict what will really work. For example, the white 1963 Citroën Ami 6 Berline only just made EUR 6000 (estimated value EUR 10,000 to 15,000) despite having had just one owner for 44 years, while the 1977 Citroën 2 CV4 was knocked down for EUR 25,000 top bid (estimated value EUR 15,000 to 25,000), nota bene with 6949 km on the clock.
Of course, these were not the only three surprises at the three auctions by RM/Sotheby's, Bonhams and Artcurial, and we will be publishing the complete results soon.
