When you could still really see out of the car
The cars of the seventies are rightly considered to be particularly well laid out. Not only did the wind tunnel play less of a role back then, but low beltlines and large window areas were also "en vogue".
The Opel Ascona A is a typical child of its time and indeed it impresses with its very good all-round visibility. This was also confirmed by Automobil Revue in a very detailed test in 1972 , in which the all-round visibility was also completely measured.
At that time, we learned that only 50 degrees of the full 360-degree all-round view were obscured by window mullions and that the floor was visible at the rear after just 6.1 meters.
Modern cars perform significantly worse in these respects; in the Range Rover Evoque, for example, recent tests have shown that you can only see the ground after around 30 meters if you look through the rear window.
