The right color choice for the neoclassic
09/15/2019
If you buy or want to sell a classic car, you don't have much choice when it comes to color. You take or have what is offered/given to you. It's different with a new classic if you buy it today. There is often a choice here. However, the choice of color could have a significant influence on the value development. And repainting is very controversial among original fans.
So which color to choose? Let's take an example: the Alpine A110, as it has been sold since 2018. Most of the early models were all painted in "Bleu Alpine", a classic color scheme reminiscent of the Berlinette and rally cars of the 1970s.
Nowadays, however, there are also more subtle paint finishes, such as a sophisticated dark blue, a shade of gray, white and black. Unfortunately, the latter makes the contours almost disappear.
Today's tastes would recommend white or gray, but how will people see it in five or ten years' time when they want to sell the neo-classic again? A difficult decision.
For me, the case would be clear: I would order the Alpine in orange. It suits the Alpine almost as well as blue, but it was already available back then (see the Recnontrre Franco-Suisse Alpine meeting ) and would still be rare today. But there's a problem: Alpine doesn't supply the new Alpine in orange at all, but the A110 S is now available in a matt gray. Will this be in demand in 10 years' time?
