The curve lover Colani has fallen silent (obituary)
09/17/2019
The fact that he was well-known and controversial can be seen now, after his death at just over 91 years of age, from the fact that almost every newspaper or magazine deals with him.
There is little to add, but we would still like to point out a few things.
In 1971, the friend of round and bionic design converted a Lamborghini Miura into a racing slipper .
Years earlier, in the mid-sixties, Colani had already succeeded in small series production with the Colani GT, which was based on the Beetle.
In 1972, Colani designed the Formula 1 monoposto Eifelland 01 , but his first, certainly bold design did not really work. For various reasons, this adventure was not a success.
In 1976, Colani presented a sports car with a retro design at the Geneva Motor Show.
Colani, who incidentally also spent a few years designing near Bern, was a designer with clear ideas and he did not hold back when it came to criticizing other people's work. But he was also a man of action, designing everyday objects, airplanes, cars, motorcycles and even cameras. The modern Canon EOS, for example, is said to still benefit from his work with the T90.
He also wanted to simplify beer drinking, as demonstrated by a glass designed for Warsteiner in 1981.
If you want to know more, we recommend the extensive article on Wikipedia or a report in the magazine Auto Exklusiv from 1991 (in the Zwischengas magazine archive, where you can find 105 pages of reports on Luigi Colani).
