Once Giugiaro, always Giugiaro?
09/07/2018
When I recently looked back at my first cars, I noticed a surprising common factor. Four of the first cars I bought in the eighties were all Giugiaro designs, namely the Alfa Romeo Alfasud, the Alfa Romeo Alfasud Sprint Veloce, the VW Scirocco and the Fiat Panda. Coincidence? Probably not, although at the time I probably didn't even know who had drawn the design that led to the shape of the car I bought.
However, it was not so easy to avoid Giorgetto Giugiaro ( you can see him in the photo above left, the clown in the painted picture is also by Giugiaro, who is a passionate painter), after all, some of the best-selling cars (and some of the most beautiful sports cars such as the Maserati Ghibli or the Chevrolet Corvair Testudo) come from his work.
But he was also really good, and he showed this in particular with the Fiat Panda, where he had a largely free hand and was able to implement a large number of interesting ideas. That's why the appeal at Grand Basel to " Save the Panda" has met with a great deal of sympathy from me.
Grand Basel is still open to visitors until Sunday, September 9, 2018.
