The Swiss Packard Club traveled to Graubünden to celebrate its 25th anniversary
Packard , the leading luxury brand before the Second World War, has not existed for more than 60 years. Some Packard owners founded the "Packardclub Switzerland" 25 years ago, on April 26, 1993, to exchange experiences and obtain spare parts from the USA. Another aim was, of course, to cultivate camaraderie, to go on trips together and to organize events with opportunities for "petrol talk". Today the club has 48 members.
Several events are organized each year, such as a "start-up" in May, a one-day trip with a general meeting and a two-day trip in September. The year ends with a winter get-together in November (without classic cars).
A "Euro Packard Meeting" is held every two years. These meetings are also attended by a sizeable delegation from the Swiss club. In 2015, the "Packardclub Switzerland" organized the event with great success. In 2017, the multi-day event took place in Blenkburg (Germany); next year, Vienna will be the venue.
To mark the 25th anniversary, a four-person committee organized a five-day "anniversary trip" to Graubünden. The starting point for the trips was the "Des Alpes" hotel in Flims Waldhaus.
18 Packards born between 1925 and 1950 took part in the event and completed the trip without any mishaps. The trip took them to Chur, among other places, where they were able to visit the old town with an expert guide. Another day trip took the group to Bergün, where they visited the railroad museum and spent the afternoon relaxing in the sulphur thermal baths in Alvaneu-Bad.
On Saturday, the program included a trip to Disentis and a visit to the Rhine Gorge, as well as one of the highlights of the event, the gala dinner in the historic "Belle Epoque" fireplace room of the "Grandhotel Flims-Waldhaus". Finally, the last day was spent relaxing, sleeping in and saying goodbye. A successful event and wonderful cars!
