Design development in seven years
11/09/2021
Do you sometimes have the feeling that car design hardly evolves and that more or less the same thing is produced over and over again?
Well, let's take a look back at 1964 and the years that followed. In March 1964, the Lamborghini company unveiled its first production car, the 350 GT, at the Geneva Motor Show. Just five months earlier, the busy sports car developers in Turin had presented their first ever car, the 350 GTV prototype.
The Lamborghini Miura was then presented for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1966. Two years later, the Lamborghini Espada was presented there.
And in March 1971, the prototype of the Lamborghini Countach captivated visitors to the Geneva Motor Show.
Only seven years had passed between the first presentation of the 350 GT and the Countach, and two epoch-making designs had been shown in between: the Miura and the Espada. And the differences between these four sports cars could hardly have been greater.
Only when you see the 350 GT right next to a Countach can you get an idea of the surge of creativity that swept through the car industry in those years. One would wish for such a boost for some car manufacturers today ...
P.S. The two Lambos were photographed at the last Auto Zürich Classic 2021 , of course there is also a report with many pictures.
