The story of a front page
11/13/2021
How is the cover of a magazine actually created? This question comes up from time to time and we want to answer it here using the cover of the upcoming Zwischengas annual magazine 2022 .
We usually start preparing for our annual magazine very early, with the first ideas being discussed as early as February, but we typically need the print run to get going. We want to have the cover image as early as possible, but here too, everything took a little longer in 2021.
In the end, we decided to bring together three popular sports cars from three countries and three eras, which should of course also form an interesting combination in terms of color. At the same time, the cars on the cover should of course also play a role inside the magazine. With the Lotus Elan, the Alfa Romeo GTV 6 and the Renault Sport Spider, we finally found the right three cars, so we had to identify a location that was easy to reach with the three vehicles and that allowed the desired perspective.
Our photographer Daniel Reinhard gave the direction and finally the cars were positioned as desired. The sun also cooperated and after a few hours the cover picture was in the can.
But that wasn't the whole front page. We still had to select further pictures of portrayed vehicles, define the graphic design of the page and put everything together on the computer, which was done by our layout designer Marco Schulze.
But now the discussions really started, because there were still hundreds of ideas on how to show something more concisely here or there or which photos below could be used to better draw attention to the content. The process is not over yet, with new suggestions being added every day.
So the cover page shown here is not exactly the one you will have in your hands in December 2021 if you decide to buy the magazine. There may still be a few surprises, but at the moment we are concentrating our energy mainly on the 258 inside pages, as these are much more important to interested readers than the cover.
By the way, you can still pre-order the 2022 annual magazine free of shipping costs (D/A/CH) until November 18, 2021 (24:00).
