When there were no brakes in car advertising
11/26/2021
An advertisement like the one shown would be unthinkable today. The text was deliberately kept factual and mainly quoted test results that simply confirmed that the Pirelli P6 was the wide tire par excellence and made driving safer. The subject was printed in 1979 and the car shown was not a sports car, but an Opel with Pirelli P6 tires. Incidentally, this tire was also available for Golf & Co. and it looked pretty cool with its semi-symmetrical tread. And obviously it also braked better, while Pirelli's marketing strategies were apparently less effective ...
For the sake of completeness, here is the entire advertising page from back then:
P.S. There is a small compilation of other Pirelli advertisements from back then .
P.S.2 We have just published a car connoisseur quiz on the subject of "car advertising".
