The alternative to pop-up headlights
06/12/2016
Long before the flip-up headlights became the talk of the town, e.g. because of mandatory daytime running lights, there were car owners who were looking for a remedy. For example, the VW-Porsche 914, whose front end did not only receive positive comments.
The Frankfurt Porsche wholesaler Otto Glöckler therefore converted a VW-Porsche at the beginning of the 1970s and fitted two large halogen twin headlights (picture above, from the VW 411?). The line of the upper edges of the fenders was also adapted and is reminiscent of the later flat-body 911s built by the factory.
Whether the result is considered more attractive today is of course another question. In any case, the solution would probably no longer be feasible today due to the statutory minimum installation height of headlights.
