The Alfa Romeo Giulia and women
08/30/2014
Despite its seemingly feminine name, the majority of buyers of the Alfa Romeo Giulia were male.
The Alfa saloon was regarded as a Gran Turismo with family transportation potential. Even the simplest version, the Giulia 1300 introduced in 1964, met above-average requirements in terms of driving performance and safety.
Despite this, or perhaps because of it, women played an important role in marketing the export hit. They adorned the press photos and sales brochures.
Although you hardly ever saw a woman behind the wheel, the pictures made it clear that women also loved the Giulia.
For this article, we have only collected a small number of the published images. It is interesting to note the trends in fashion and clothing, while the Giulia basically remained the same for 16 years, hardly changing at all.
Who would be able to classify the six pictures shown in the historically correct order?
You can find out more about the Alfa Romeo Giulia in the recently published historical test report from 1964, for example , and more women and cars in our "Picture Magic" series.
