Schumacher's Benetton as a surprise at the Nürburgring
As a last-minute surprise - there wasn't even enough time for a line in the program booklet - Michael Schumacher's first world championship car was presented on the Ring yesterday, Saturday.
The 1994 Benetton Ford B194-5 had been purchased at a Bonhams auction on December 1, 2013 by Andreas Dünkel, owner of the Motorworld classic car center in Stuttgart, and was completely ready to drive.
Shortly afterwards, Michael Schumacher had an accident while skiing and a major announcement was postponed.
Now, however, the Benetton was able to show at the Nürburgring that it is indeed still driving. The first start attempt yesterday shortly before 6 p.m. was not yet successful, but a short time later the green and blue car raised its melodious voice.
And off it went onto the race track.
Unfortunately, the Formula 1 car had to return to the pits after a drive past, as the schedule had been seriously disrupted by a serious accident during a previous race.
A second demonstration is planned for today, Sunday, after midday.
