Classic pearls of the future - TVR Sagaris
08/23/2014
It looked not unlike the Batmobile and it always attracted attention, the TVR Sagaris. First announced in 2003 at the MPH03 Auto Show and shown as a pre-production vehicle in Birmingham in 2004, intrepid owners were able to buy a 385 hp Sagaris with the four-liter inline six-cylinder engine with two overhead camshafts familiar from the Tuscan for a still reasonable six-figure sum from 2005.
In return, they received a car that largely complied with the FIA approval regulations for GT racing without any modifications. The roll bar was installed, as were sufficient air intakes for longer driving on the racetrack. What the buyer had to do without, however, were ABS, airbags and electronic driving aids, which would not have been needed in racing anyway.
So the Sagaris was one of the last cars without such safety systems, but due to the imminent end of TVR, it was only produced for two years.
Not too many cars were built, insiders speak of a maximum of 150 to 200, most of which remained in England. However, a few cars did make it to Switzerland and Germany.
If these cars can be kept in working order on the road in the future, then nothing stands in the way of classic status and steadily rising valuations.
