Popular accessories from back then - luggage racks
In the fifties and sixties, they were "en vogue", the bolt-on luggage racks on the rear of sports cars and convertibles. They were intended to remedy the shortage of luggage space and allowed additional items of luggage to be strapped on behind the occupants.
Such solutions were offered even before the war, and some were even installed, such as in the Lagonda V12 Saloon.
Of course, there was also the variant for the car roof, which was even more popular. Millions of Beetles were fitted with such a device and sometimes transported heavy loads above the passengers.
However, you had to make sure that the luggage was weatherproof, otherwise the packed underpants would be dripping with water after driving through a rain shower.
