The streets as they used to be ...

This week, after many years, I once again drove over the Brünig, a pass that connects the cantons of Obwalden and Bern. Many decades ago, when we were able to buy our first cars (with perhaps 70 or 85 hp), the Brünig was one of our favorite stretches of road and an opportunity to enjoy the car's handling and performance.
So the anticipation was great, but the horror was all the greater when I realized how much the pass route had changed. Not only does a not inconsiderable part of the route lead through tunnels, but it felt like 70 to 80% of the 15 kilometers or so were marked with solid safety lines, with signal boards everywhere restricting travel.
It was no fun, overtaking was only possible in exceptional cases and you felt more like you were on a train than in a car.
And yet modern cars would be really fast and overtaking maneuvers would be conceivable today that we had only dreamed of in the past ....
