Camouflaged test drives with the Alfasud
03/30/2013
In the past, even more than today, car manufacturers had to test their new vehicles in a wide variety of environments. While climate chambers and simulations can do some of the work today, in the past test drivers always had to be called in to test the prototypes in the most disgusting conditions. And because they didn't want to present the final design details to the competition and the press before the launch, the prototypes were camouflaged. Once again, once again. They were then also called Erlkönige.
The two pictures show vehicles of the type Alfa Romeo Alfasuds, which were produced in series from 1972. The camouflage was limited to fender trims and an implied notchback, as well as a modified front design.
We published a comprehensive report on the Alfa Romeo Alfasud on Zwischengas some time ago, but have now added some additional pictures (including the prototypes).
