No time for tradition at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show
03/07/2013
The 2013 Geneva Motor Show is all about ecological progress and new drive concepts, as well as super sports cars such as the Ferrari "LaFerrari", the Lamborghini Veneno or the McLaren P1 with over 900 hp. There are also hundreds of premieres and firsts, many interesting, some impressive.
It is therefore not surprising that there is little room for tradition in this flood of new products if there were not so many anniversaries to celebrate at the same time. Lamborghini, for example, is celebrating 50 years, but nothing more than a logo was on show, although a 350 GTV or a Miura would certainly have done the stand good. Aston Martin is even celebrating the hundredth year of its existence this year, after all they brought a DBR1 to Geneva. And Porsche is just letting the fifty-year tradition of the 911 flicker across the screen in a few video messages, with no trace of earlier models. However, the T7, the prototype of the 901/911, is said to have been spotted somewhere behind the stand.
After all, some manufacturers are still showing classic cars. The Subaru 360, the subcompact car that made the Japanese four-wheeler manufacturer a car manufacturer back then, adorns the stand and refers to the company's 55-year history. Jaguar places an XK 120 next to the new roadster.
At RUF there is (still) the Porsche 901 to admire and at Brabus there is a Mercedes Benz 280 SL (the R113 celebrated its premiere in Geneva 50 years ago). And, as one Zwischengas reader correctly pointed out, Mitsubishi also had a classic at the back of the stand, the Mitsubishi Celeste.
The highlight of the Pininfarina stand, however, was the Ferrari Dino Berlinetta Speciale from 1965, which provided a more than fitting setting for the presentation of the Pininfarina Sergio.
We have put together a picture gallery of the classics , which is certainly worth a look.
