Launched 30 years ago - Audi 100 (C3) Avant

Exactly thirty years ago, the Audi 100 Avant (of the C3 series) was unveiled at the 1983 Geneva Motor Show. It was not necessarily a sensation, but nevertheless an important milestone.
There had already been an Avant model of the predecessor C2, but this had been designed as a hatchback rather than an estate and was even shorter in length than the saloon.
With the C3, a step was taken in the direction of a station wagon, as the roof was extended and the rear window was steeper. However, Audi was still reluctant to adopt the classic station wagon look. The car looked like a mixture of hatchback and estate car, but at least it offered a large tailgate and was therefore practical without looking too sober.
However, the concept also had disadvantages: the interior heated up considerably due to the sloping rear window, and the trunk volume could not compete with the real station wagons.
In any case, the successor C4 already had the classic station wagon shape, which has been retained to this day.
