In the seventies, wedge-shaped design was "en vogue". Ford did not want to be left behind and commissioned the company's own design company Ghia to develop an aggressively shaped super sports car.
The result, the Ghia Action F1, was unveiled at the 1978 Turin Motor Show. And the Ghia Action was truly wedge-shaped. Powered by a V8 engine derived from a Formula 1 unit, the sports car built on a Ford Escort chassis would have been a thoroughly entertaining and impressive vehicle in terms of driving performance. However, the work did not go beyond a show car and today one can only marvel at so much designer courage.
