Ford Mustela II - Coupé elegance in seventies style
11/14/2012
An unexpected novelty was the Ford Mustela II vehicle study on the Ghia stand at the 1973 Geneva Motor Show.
The Automobil Revue 12/1973 reported on page 3: "In addition to an elegant body, a carefully built interior and an independent rear axle, the Mustela II is characterized by a turbo V6 engine with a displacement of 3 liters, which in the version shown delivers an output of over 180 hp."
The compact coupé was described by the commentators as having a "really pretty body": "The lines are simple but full of verve. The front has four rectangular headlights, the arrangement of which is immediately reminiscent of the Fiat 130 coupé by Pininfarina."
When it came to the engine, the Ghia team reverted to the tried and tested: a Ford V6 of English manufacture (i.e. the Essex engine) with a displacement of 3 liters and turbocharging was sufficient for above-average performance at the time.
Tom Tjaarda was responsible for the design of the wedge-shaped coupé.
As far as we know, little is known about the whereabouts of the study. But we would be happy to find out more.
