Extremes and contrasts in the mid-seventies

It is almost unbelievable that these three cars were presented at almost the same time: The Aston Martin Lagonda, the Porsche 928 and the Citroën CX.
The Citroën CX was presented in 1974 to succeed the DS, which was difficult to replace. Aerodynamics and elegance were certainly high on the designers' list of requirements.
The Porsche 928 was presented to the public for the first time at the 1977 Geneva Motor Show. In the eyes of Porsche's management, the eight-cylinder GT was to inherit and ultimately replace the 911.
In 1976, two years after the CX and one year before the 928, the Aston Martin Lagonda (pictured above) - still a prototype - caused an uproar at its presentation. Not only was the shape electrifying, but the heavy use of electronic components and digital displays also represented a milestone and would later cause a lot of trouble for the manufacturer and its customers.
