To mark the 60th anniversary of the Albert Park racetrack, the two former local F1 drivers were each honored with a bust for their four world championship titles .
Three-time F1 World Champion (1959, 1960 and 1966) Jack Brabham, born on April 2, 1926 in Hurstville (New South Wales), and 1980 World Champion Alan Jones, born on November 2, 1946 in Melbourne, attended the ceremony in person.
Jack Brabham 's Formula 1 career began at the 1955 British GP and ended at the 1970 Mexican GP, during which time he drove for Cooper (1955, 1957-61), Maserati (1956) and Brabham (1962-1970). To this day, he is the only F1 world champion to have won this title in a car of his own design. In his 126 starts, he achieved 14 victories, 13 pole positions and 12 fastest laps.
Alan Jones started his F1 career exactly 20 years later at the 1975 Spanish GP and it ended in his home country at the 1986 Australian GP. Jones drove for Hesketh and Hill (1975), Surtees (1976), Shadow (1977), Williams (1978-81), Arrows (1983) and Haas-Lola (1985 and 86). In 116 starts, he stood at the top of the podium 12 times, started from the front six times and set the fastest race lap 13 times.
