Blitzmerker (car connoisseur quiz)

At 125 years old, Opel is the oldest German car brand still in existence and almost as old as the automobile itself. Accordingly, the products from Rüsselsheim have been part of virtually the entire evolution of motorized locomotion on four wheels, from the horseless carriage to the modern electric glider.
Hardly anything symbolizes technical progress as much as speed. The 228 km/h of the "Green Monster" was an almost unearthly speed in 1914, when even well-motorized road cars only went half as fast. A speed that was easily surpassed by the top-of-the-range model available to everyone in 1987. The Opel Omega 3000 ran at 242 km/h and only needed 204 hp from three liters of displacement instead of 260 hp from 12.3 liters.
But it too has since been overtaken by progress. A top speed of over 200 km/h is no longer a privilege of the luxury class. Today, even compact cars with good engines can reach these speeds. An ordinary Opel Astra 1.6 from 2024 can easily keep up with the racing car from 1914. Who would have expected this 125 years ago, when the Opel patented motor car "System Lutzmann" first drove around the world at speeds of up to 30 km/h?
Reducing such a long tradition to just ten questions is not easy, of course. Nevertheless, we have given it a try and compiled a few of the better-known and some of the lesser-known aspects of Opel's history in this car connoisseur quiz. Would you like to give it a try?
