This 1955 Chrysler New Yorker De Luxe 4-Door Sedan is located in Mokra Gora in the west of Serbia on the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina. And not on pneumatic tires and asphalt, but on Boxpok wheels and railroad tracks. Now a pure sculpture, the question arises as to what it once was. A control car for new sections of track? A showpiece vehicle for station openings? Or even the rail-bound equivalent of a private jet for high-ranking party officials?
According to a plaque on the rear, the rail cruiser is said to have been capable of speeds of up to 60 km/h, which probably rules out it being a functionless joke. Although Yugoslavia was socialist, it was not part of the Soviet Union and maintained economic links with the West. It is therefore quite possible that the Chrysler arrived there at a young age. Nearby, under a roof, there is a similarly converted light blue Peugeot 404, whose roof has been replaced by a handrail for standing passengers.
