Rauno Aaltonen and the Mini
07/08/2024
Rauno Aaltonen competed in the Safari Rally many times and finished in the top positions several times. However, he was not granted a victory. Instead, he won the 1967 Monte Carlo Rally with Henry Liddon in a Mini Cooper S. The friendly Finn is also known as the "Rally Professor" and has taught many people how to drive (and brake with their left foot).
Last weekend he was at the British Classic Car Meeting in St. Moritz and also took part in the rally in a Mini Cooper S. However, he did not finish. However, he did not make it to the finish, as a valve stem had become loose. "This has never happened to me in all the rallies with the Mini," he explained somewhat disappointedly after the retirement. But he didn't let this spoil his good mood, after all, St. Moritz wasn't about winning or losing, but simply about having a nice get-together and enjoying classic British vehicles.
We have already published a comprehensive reporton the event.
