He has outdone himself

A Triumph Vitesse was no creative masterpiece. A pair of twin headlights on the front of the Herald, a stripe on the side - done. Usually, in situations like this, designers from outside the company felt called upon to show the stylistic thrifty types how it's done properly. In the case of the Triumph Vitesse, however, it was the creator himself who wanted to tweak his design once again.
At the 1964 Geneva Motor Show , Giovanni Michelotti therefore presented the Triumph Vitesse 1600 GT: a dark red coupé with a BMW-like sloping shark nose and a windshield extended into the roof. In this form, the small six-cylinder finally looked as fast as the name suggested. But the British also took the economical route here. The Vitesse coupé, which would finally go into series production two years later, was simply a Spitfire with a roof.
