Reliving the dreams of youth
07/11/2024
It was over 40 years ago when Porsche presented the 944 (1981) and Alfa Romeo the GTV6( 1980). Back then, they were dream cars par excellence. We had just got our driver's license and could finally afford a car, but of course we didn't have enough money for a new 944 or GTV6. So we ended up with an Alfasud, a used VW Scirocco or a Fiat Panda. But we dreamed of the two hot sports cars from Zuffenhausen and Milan.
Back then, we devoured everything the press could write about these two cars and even off-topic magazines such as "Cosmopolitan" devoted themselves to the junior Ferrari competitor, the Alfa Romeo GTV6.
Yesterday we were able to place the two rivals side by side and photograph them. The result will be the cover story of SwissClassics-Revue 5/2024, which will be published in September.
But this much can already be said. Both of these cars still have their charms today, have remained attractive and are a joy to drive.
While one is particularly convincing as an overall package, it is the legendary Busso engine in the other that makes everything else pale in comparison and also compensates for weaknesses in other areas.
If any readers have memories of these cars, we would be delighted to receive your comments, which we would then be happy to include in our report. So just write away ...
P.S. It is no coincidence that the reports on the two cars (linked above) are among the oldest articles we have ever published on Zwischengas.
