Isn't a little suffering part of it?

Over the decades, cars have become more and more perfect, comfortable and supportive. Vehicles from the nineties (1990-1993) are already entering the classic car age and therefore many comfort functions, air conditioning, safety and the first assistance systems are available to classic car drivers. But is a ride in a 1990s classic car really comparable to what we used to experience in much older cars?
Isn't it the case that we remember driving with real challenges particularly well, for example when shifting gears required a lot of attention, when the heat or cold got to you or when you started to get calluses on your hands from steering?
In any case, I can remember very well longer journeys in my Devin, which was blessed with neither a roof nor any comfort features. The luggage was stowed in garbage bags to protect it from the rain. The racing goggles protected the eyes from insects and raindrops. Full concentration was required at the steering wheel. When you arrived, you knew what you had done.
