How much longer will it be built?

It was almost 50 years ago when the magazine "auto motor und sport" asked how long the Porsche 911 would be built.
The entire (long) development from the 901 to the Turbo was revisited in a multi-page article worth reading. In the final sentence, Clauspeter Becker gave the 911 a few more years after all:
"Far more than the turbo, however, the two remaining 911 models will possibly guarantee the continued existence of this model series. Because today's 911 with 165 hp (121 kW) and the tamed three-liter Carrera with 200 hp (147 kW) are likely to guarantee "driving in its most beautiful form" (Porsche slogan) in the price gap between the Porsche 924 and the top model 928 for years to come."
But Becker would never have imagined in 1976 that the 911 would outlive all its modern descendants. Back then, however, there were no thoughts of water cooling, all-wheel drive or catalytic converters for the 911.
Today we know better, the 911 is celebrating its 60th birthday this year! And there is (still) no end in sight ...
