What is red and costs 80,000 dollars?
How much would you spend on a 1987 Honda Prelude 2.0 Si? 3000 francs? 4000? 5000, tops. If it's first-hand? All right, maybe 6000. And if it has only covered 7000 kilometers? Then maybe even 8000, but definitely not five figures. After all, it's still an old Honda and not a Porsche.
Two bidders on bringatrailer.com apparently saw it differently. They both wanted the bright red folding headlight coupé so much that they bid each other up to 79,000 US dollars (70,941.60 euros or 67,714.85 Swiss francs). The lucky winner said after the auction that such a Prelude had been his first car. He had been looking for the perfect replacement for over 20 years and had finally found it.
According to Classic Data, the sporty Honda with the 109 hp engine is priced at 5,000 francs in condition 2. There is only a dash under "Condition 1" in the value table - because such perfect cars have never been traded before. One has now turned up. And the number of serious potential buyers was twice as high as the number of available cars. Let someone say again that a Porsche 911 is overpriced.
