De Buurä-Ferrari - The farmer's Ferrari
06/12/2023
Thanks to its ground clearance, all-wheel drive and the estate version, the Subaru quickly became a farmer's Ferrari. Whether milk, sheep or whole calves were driven from A to B in the cars, the car was suitable for all journeys.
But watch out, because the farmer has always driven top-class vehicles.
First and foremost Lamborghini and Porsche. The Italian company began building tractors long before sports cars arrived, and Lamborghini is still a quality product not only for the highway, but also for the field. Porsche gave up tractors, but their old Ackergaul is now almost as expensive as a 911. After the takeover of Mannesmann, the Porsche tractor division was merged with that of MAN in 1962. They were sold to Renault in 1963. A total of around 120,000 Acker-Porsche were built.
Not only the Italians and the Germans built tractors and cars, there were also Renault, Hanomag and Ford, not forgetting Ferguson, which also built the first four-wheel drive F1 racing car and thus went down in history as the only company to win an F1 race at Oulton Park on September 24, 1961 with Sir Stirling Moss at the wheel. Once again, we have come full circle.
And Switzerland also had its tractor industry, whether they were called Hürlimann, Bührer, Meili or Köpfli. Incidentally, the latter was built for a long time in the house of the Swiss mountain king Fredy Amweg.
If you would like to see a few more pictures of the 8th Tractor & Classic Car Meeting on June 3, 2023 in Otelfingen, we have put together a small collection of pictures especially for you.
