Palm barn find - surprisingly expensive projects
06/13/2023
So now it's over, the auction of the Palmen Scheuenfund collection. From May 19 to June 6, 2023, hundreds of bidders fought online for the sometimes very rare automobiles and motorcycles. We have already reported on the collection.
The various vehicles had been parked for a long time, in some cases over 40 years, and had never been moved. The engines had been turned over from time to time, we could read. And most of the cars are complete and original.
Nevertheless, most of the cars would probably need a fairly extensive restoration and for many of them this would hardly be commercially worthwhile. But presumably the buyers were of a different opinion or they were simply realizing a dream, regardless of financial success. Here are some examples from the results.
EUR 28,000 was paid for an Alfa Romeo Spider Duetto and EUR 102,500 (37 bids) for an admittedly rare Alfa Romeo 2600 SZ.
The Lancia Aurelia Spider America from 1955 (pictured above) fetched EUR 540,000, a BMW 1600 GT from 1968 EUR 41,504.
EUR 119,000 was invested in the Maserati 3500 GTI Sebring from 1963 and EUR 111,000 in a Facel Vega II from 1962.
An Alfa Romeo Giulia 1600 Spider from 1963 fetched EUR 44,000, while EUR 44,550 was paid for an Alfa Romeo Montreal from 1973.
An Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Sport Coupé Freccia d'Oro was worth EUR 151,750 to the highest bidder, while a Ferrari 365 GT 2+2 from 1968 sold for EUR 182,500.
The highly interesting 1970 Monica prototype, the third pre-production car built, was valued at EUR 155,000 by the winning bidder, while a 1963 BMW 3200 CS Bertone fetched EUR 41,000.
A Tatra T87 from 1948 could be had for EUR 175,000, a Lancia Flaminia Sport Zagato from 1964 for EUR 195,000, the Maserati Bora 4.7 from 1972 was silver-plated for EUR 127,000, while a Simca 8 Sports Coupé from 1951 sold for EUR 23,000.
The EUR 21,500 for the Messerschmitt KR 200 from 1963 was also a considerable price.
These are just a few examples. If you are interested, you can view the complete sales results on the "classic car auction" website .
