Car and train - teamwork in traffic
05/01/2023
No, this is not about current politics. Nowadays it seems to be more of a battle between rail and road.
But let's look back to 1996, when the SBB (Swiss Federal Railways) advertising service launched an informative calendar with monthly pages designed to illustrate the dependencies between rail and car.
From the original text (in four languages): "It is not unusual for a train journey to begin in a car or bus. Conversely, those arriving by train appreciate the transfer to their destination in a private car, in a Tagi or by PostBus. Without cars, trains would be less popular - and without trains, road traffic would come to a standstill even more often. Perhaps car ownership will also start with a train journey - to Geneva, for example, to the "Salon de l'Automobile" (March)."
There's more, even the role of the railroads in transporting new (above) and disused cars is depicted on a calendar page.
And in addition to the then current vehicles, the calendar also features classic cars. For the photo shoot, the Bugatti 35 shown was specially transported from the museum to the appropriate location.
And the cover page features two vehicles designed by Pininfarina, the 2000 locomotive (Re 460) and the Ferrari 512 TR. That's how we'd like the train to look, isn't it?
