When the golden cup almost falls into the water
05/21/2023
This year's Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este was not exactly spoiled by the weather. Saturday in particular was quite rainy and some of the 52 rare and mostly elegant classic cars probably saw more water in a few hours than they have in years.
But the owners put on a good face and drove their high-priced rarities past the public despite the rainy weather.
The public returned the favor by voting for the Coppa d'Oro. The winner of the public vote was the 1962 Ferrari 250 GT California Spiders, which once belonged to Françoise Sagan and has already had a colorful life with over a dozen owners. One of them painted the Spyder, which incidentally was once Ferrari's entry-level model so to speak, with a military-style toothbrush and drove it in road races against a Ferrari 250 GTO.
In the meantime, however, the Spyder has been restored to its original livery and has evidently won over the public.
However, if there had also been seaplanes to choose from, who knows ...
P.S. A comprehensive report on the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este will follow soon.
