The true racing dream car - Citroën Méhari Speedster
12/16/2022
It was bound to happen. After the completely pointless invention of the SUV convertible, it was the next (ill)logical step: the Kübelwagen roadster. With a body-colored plastic cover over the rear seats, the family-friendly four-seater became a racy racer for childless couples. The Ford Thunderbird Sports Roadster led the way in 1962, followed by the Porsche 911 Speedster in 1988. And in between, Citroën not only spanned the width of the Méhari, but also the back seat with a large ABS molded part to take away most of the versatility of the quirky all-purpose vehicle.
But perhaps someone has simply stored the removable hood there to avoid having to put it in the snow. As it cannot simply be opened like on conventional cars, this is the only way to close photos of the small two-cylinder engine. This would also explain why the front end of the frozen Dyane buggy looks so unusually flat and sleek in the photo above. What is the summery beach buggy doing in the rim-horn-deep snow anyway? We'll tell you the story in the next issue of SwissClassics. We received the car for the photo session from Rent-a-Classic.
