Classic car drivers are open to modern light sources (Question of the week)
Anyone who ventures into modern traffic at night in an old car will hardly be seen among all the xenon, laser or LED-lit modern vehicles. And they can't see very far either, as the light output of the cars of yesteryear was rather modest. You might even think about retrofitting, especially as there are more and more options for equipping your headlights with LED light sources. However, this often doesn't look very historic or coherent. What is more important, safety or originality?
We wanted to find out from Zwischengas readers and asked the following " question of the week" : Would you upgrade the lights on your classic/youngtimer?
Around 500 readers responded and over two thirds are open to upgraded lighting systems and headlights. Slightly less than half of them (28 percent in absolute terms) would take a pragmatic approach as long as they could see and be seen better. However, 40.9 percent (absolute) would prefer discreet changes or a solution using additional headlights.
26.3 percent (absolute) consider originality to be more important than improved visibility, as they are bothered by the differences between LED bulbs and incandescent bulbs, especially as the old cars are not necessarily designed for the use of modern bulbs.
4.7 percent could not agree with any of the answers given.
